The company’s ninth project in the UK will mark a new milestone. The complete plant, consisting of a total of four lines, ranks among Europe’s largest and most efficient WtE plants.
After the successful construction of Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 (FM1) in 2015, the kick off for Ferrybridge Multifuel 2 (FM2) has become reality. The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract has been awarded to Swiss Kanadevia Inova, which already provided its first-class technology for FM1 and served as general contractor. The contract between Kanadevia Inova and the client SSE plc came into force on June 30, 2016. “Kanadevia Inova proved itself to be an exceptionally constructive and reliable partner in the realization of FM1. We therefore have absolute confidence in working with them again and anticipate as with FM1 that jobs will be created either direct or indirect as a consequence of the FM2 project” said Charlie Cryans, Head of Construction for SSE UK and Ireland
With a remarkable boiler capacity of 117.4 MWthermal, FM2 will achieve the same outstanding efficiency as its sister plant.
Utmost Energy Efficiency from Diverse Fuel Sources
Using a thermal WtE process, FM2 will annually handle around 570,000 tonnes of waste-derived fuel from various sources such as municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial waste and waste wood. The plant will be producing enough energy to power around 170,000 homes. With net energy efficiency of 31%, it will be on a par with its sister plant and will also rank among the top facilities in Europe in this regard. Achieving these values was one of the criteria for Kanadevia Inova securing this project. Kanadevia Inova CEO Franz-Josef Mengede stressed: “We are proud to be chosen for a repeat order by SSE based on trust in our technological performance as well as our capability to deliver complex turn-key projects safely, on time and at a high quality level.”
Boost for the Regional Economy
In addition to energy recovery, the project will also add economic value, this not least contributing to the exceptionally high support from the population. As with FM1, the construction of FM2 will also benefit local businesses. “Together we can thus make an important contribution to a sustainable and green economy,” emphasized Franz-Josef Mengede.
The new project is worth a total of over CHF 360 million. Initial building work is likely to start in July 2016, with the first waste fire expected in 2018.
Download media release
Download Picture of FM1

Swiss technology company to deliver Europe’s largest energy-from-waste plant undertaken by an individual contractor Following on from the successful completion of…

[158
236,118,166,238,239,240,160,182,221,167,168,204,237,119,205
post-4092","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","tag-arbeitsplatze","tag-energy-from-waste","tag-ferrybridge","tag-gewerbeabfalle","tag-grossbritannien","tag-haushaltsabfalle","tag-hzi","tag-hitachi-zosen-inova","tag-multifuel","tag-sse","tag-uk-company","tag-waste-to-energy","tag-Waste-to-Energy","tag-WtE","tag-wte
["GET
